How to become a member
Tag Rugby is a non-contact version of rugby where players wear a belt with two tags, and the goal is to score tries by carrying the ball over the opposition's try line. To stop an attacking player, defenders simply remove one of their tags, not by tackling them. Teams are made up of either six, seven or eight players on the field in a mixed-gender format. Emerald Warriors RFC currently have three mixed tag rugby teams, at different levels, who play in Dublin and Tag Rugby Blitz's in Ireland and abroad:

THE BASICS OF TAG RUGBY

Everything you need to know to get started.

Team Setup

  • 7-A-SIDE
    7 players on the field (max 4 men, min 3 women)

Team Setup

  • 6-A-SIDE
    6 players on the field (max 4 men, min 2 women)

Objective

Score more tries than the opposition by grounding the ball over the try line.

No Contact

  • No tackling or pushing!
  • No physical contact!!
  • No sliding into opponents!!!

The Tag Belt

Each player wears
two Velcro tags. Lose one?
You've been 'tackled.'

Scoring Points

  • Male Try = 1
  • Female  Try = 3
  • Female Blue Box Try = 4

Basic Play

  • The ball can only be passed backwards.
  • No forward passes.
  • Kicking the ball forward is allowed.

Six Tags

  • Each team gets six tags to score points.
  • On the 6th tag, possession changes to the defending team.

Defence

Defenders can tag  players on either side of the attacker’s body. The defending team removes a tag from the ball-carrier to stop play.

Penalties

Common penalties:
offside, obstruction, dangerous play, incorrect roll-ball

Turnovers

Turnovers occur for:
> Forward passes
> Dropping the ball
> Intercepted passes
